THE AMBER WEITZER PODCAST SILHOUETTES OF SUCCESS

LAURIE YETZER | EPISODE 67 | SHOW NOTES

SILHOUETTE OF SUCCESS

A lady that dreams! She is an IT Professional that finally accomplished a childhood dream by self-publishing her first children’s book, The Kid Too Cool for Cats. The inspiration for the book was her husband, Matt, who plays guitar and was a dog person until she brought him over to the cat side and showed him cats are cool. Laurie, a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady, is passionate about cats and helping cats get adopted from shelters. She volunteers at the Dallas Animal Services, and with the help from other non-profit organizations, Awwdoptable and Cat Behavior Solutions have been able to help save cats’ lives. Laurie lives in Dallas with her husband and three cats and hopes to inspire other women to follow their dreams and write and publish the book they have in them.

Happy 50th Birthday Laurie!

CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS

Celebration: Laurie was working a lot and discusses the negative impact it was having in her life and mental health, so as with many she made changes during, after the pandemic. She observed that she worked all the time, around the clock, no boundaries, dreaded work and getting up in the morning. Scared, age, fear of not finding a new role. Before seeking a new job, she took time to “Worked on me.” Laurie shares what her new structure looked like with meditation, affirmations, vision board, exercising, reading and journaling, she joined a group, started finding classes to learn about writing a children’s book…a long-time dream of hers. She is 50 years old today and is on cloud nine especially achieving her dream of having her book published!

Shenanigans: Sometimes “work” Laurie is focused and necessary in her role of database management writing SQL code yet when she is creative writing, she gets to be ridiculous and using her wild imagination. Laurie lives within walking distance of a vibrant artistic community of Bishop Arts District in Dallas, Texas so she gets great inspiration from her time spent with the community of creatives. There are processes with the process, Laurie’s talks us through much of her learning experiences and the steps within the steps, growth within the growth. She talks about early lessons learned from her first job but how it may have been a glimpse into her true creative calling when she was fired, walked out like a scene in the movies when they pack your belongings in a box! You see she was recognized for her early comical stories she emailed out that made their way to the boss and HR with catchy titles like Audit Wars, Jurassic Audi and Groundhog Audit at her place of employment as a young professional. In fact, the HR person mentioned that she was very creative and funny.

Super Power: Confidence. Ran a marathon, scuba certificated…she talks about learning to write down your accomplishments to help escape the fear and fortify your confidence. Laurie shares how she loves being in nature and finding creative invigoration. Fresh air!
