She created her blog to shed light on the plight of caregivers after her youngest son of 5 children, Robert, lost his battle with a rare mitochondrial disease at the age of 18. Robert’s disease was progressive and attempts to control his hundreds of seizures would sometimes mean spending days in the hospital. After his passing, she felt she needed to do more to connect and help parents of children fighting diseases. She began this journey to share my experiences and what she learned, but also to help and connect other parents and caregivers that have been through what we call “Life Unexpected.” Juli speaks to encourage parents and promote inclusion on podcasts and have been featured in national publications.
CONVERSATION HIGHLIGHTS
Guiding Light: Juli shares her journey of trying to find resources for the daily needs, resources for raw and candid conversations on the really hard stuff to support and help their family navigate the rarity and complex journey with Robert. She realized that if their family struggled to find resources, then other families were also, so she began her own blog InOurArms.Blog with the goal to reach as many families as possible to encourage them and support with a network of community. The mission has expanded to helping raise both money and awareness. Juli said, “I did it scared.”, but she took action for the betterment of community. Juli’s husband Chis also contributes to the blog. Juli’s light shines bright and with the passion for literally passing the light forward they partnered with School Scents, a New Jersey based company and created custom candles to purchase and or donate to a family. Tune in to hear her story around the candles…and check back often as they create new candles and scents!
Family: When students join Juli in her studio she tells them they are now family. She currently has around 60 students plus a wait list, remarkable! Juli likes plans and structure kicking it off with prayer and meditation on her Peloton. She blocks out time for thoughtful planning of how to help the families she serves, healthy eating, plans for and teaching with her students then evenings with her husband. Juli time blocks for dreaming, realizes she is blessed taking each day getting to do advocacy work in the disability space and teaching.
Love Notes: Symbolic for so many. Juli took the month of February to personally write love notes of gratitude to so many people that support her, their family and the advocacy missions she is passionate supporting.
