EPISODE 108

SILHOUETTE OF SUCCESS | SORORITY SESSION

In this Sorority Session:

The kitchen table.

Let’s review the Conversation Highlights:

She Makes a Mean Brownie | Lisa2 | Adaptability

The kitchen table, it’s where it all happens. Conversation, heated discussions, learning, growing, reflecting, enjoying….it’s all at the kitchen table. Lisa shared in her Episode 108 that she began her Brownie Points business at her kitchen table inside her little apartment. That got me to thinking about the importance of the kitchen table-it can be literal or a metaphor. It might be the kitchen island or bar counter, it might be in a breakfast room or nook, a bistro set a card table…whatever “it” is, it is vital.

I reflect on how many discussions, gatherings, tears shed and falling to the floor laugh sessions that have taken place over my lifetime at kitchen tables. The community, the bonds, the arts and crafts and special meals…all celebrations of our lives. Lisa launched her company from a kitchen table, how cool is that. There are conversations that just wouldn’t take place if it wasn’t for the kitchen table. There are things we share or learn about each other when slowing down, being present for each other and building bonds of family, love, support and so many other spectacular memories while at the kitchen table.

I have my Grandmother’s kitchen table and adore it, she was 107 years old when she passed and the memories shared at that sweet little drop leaf white laminate kitchen table are priceless. She prepared all the meals on that table, baked hundreds, thousands of cut out Christmas cookies on that table, it held the vintage (now, not then!) metal hand crank meat grinder for ring her famous ring Koegel’s Bologna-n-Pickles sandwich fixings, conversations over favorite cereal and coffee with Grandpa. That kitchen table is so much more than old furniture, it’s a treasure. This is only one small example of the impact a kitchen table can create in someone’s life. Our children crave the engagement, require us to set the tone and parents and mentors to slow down, unplug and invest in them. We were raised with table manners, relaxed decorum and etiquette that served us all well that is being passed to our children. The conversations are priceless, and the years go by too fast, slow down and enjoy the moments at your kitchen table.
