Can you recall a time when you met someone that you thought you might want to learn more about or better yet, learn from? Was there a time when you had the courage to go up to someone as ask for their business card or to ask to connect?

Did you follow up?

Have you ever been at a networking event, seminar or situation when someone invited you for coffee or your contact information?

Did you take their call?

Leah talked about this very scenario in her Episode No. 78, did you catch her thoughts on the topic? If you did, could you relate? If you missed it…go back, it’s priceless!

In my upcoming The Traveling Circus | Conventional Wisdom course, this very topic is covered in depth. It is so critical for growth, being available, approachable, maximizing connections, collaborations, building a strong network and for me…celebrating my courage that boosted my confidence!

Leah reminds us that if that person exchanges contact information with you and is genuine in their offer to connect with you…no matter how busy they are, appear to be or you might assume…they will make the time to take your call. Period.

Make the call!

The key factor in this scenario, at least on their end; was their initial offer to connect genuine or was it a habit of networking? Make the call and find out! This is part of your personal and professional growth in accountability to yourself, to take action and follow up. Once you do, you will know where you stand then you decide the next steps. Do you try again (how bad do you want to connect with this person, within reason, of course!) or do you release the offer from your mind celebrating the earned growth credit from the actions you took. Either way you win.

Now, on the flip side of this scenario, you are in the hot seat-Congratulations! This means someone is seeking to connect with you. They might be in seat #4999 of 5000 in a massive, massively intimading Las Vegas ballroom having to use binoculars to see you on the stage-a Super Star guest speaker. They might decide to forgo the only restroom break, lunch or the phone call home to check in…just to make their way up to the front of the stage in hopes that by the time they get their the courage will be strong enough to approach you, the fear will have lost to the motivation to meet you and the words will actually come out of their mouth to say “hi”. This is someone who means to grow, someone who took their time, mustered up their courage and worked through their fear not to mention a crowded ballroom just for the opportunity to meet you. You might change their life…they might change yours. Healthy, positive connections foster reciprocal growth and complimentary energy that flows for wonderful collaborations. There are many lessons to review on this side but let’s keep it simple and straightforward today.

If you make the offer-Take their call.

There are so many times that we encounter potential mentors or someone that might be a just one step-in front of us in a similar journey or someone that sparks encouragement or has inspired us-we have all been there. If you are this person and you have the opportunity to pass on light given your experience shared on stage, in a room, meeting or social media or any platform…be genuine in your offer to connect, be present in that moment and embrace the opportunity to help elevate and pass the light to help illuminate another Silhouette of Success.
