Shoes…what is it about shoes that bring us joy, elation, excitement, feeling of productivity, confidence, expression of our personality and allow us to morph into an alter ego? I don’t know about you but the words “eye-candy” pop into my head when perusing through an online shoe gallery or a shoes store or department at the mall. Whether your style and comfort are a pair of designer five inch Charles Louboutin stilettos, a canvas Chuck Taylor, triple stitched leather cowgirl boots or anything in between…you picked them for a reason!
So as one shoe lover to another I get a kick out of Laura’s social media posts, have you followed her yet? In Episode 86 and her book Laura talks about connecting the dots back to her “Sunday shoes” as a young girl and throughout her Silhouettes of Success journey. It is fascinating to learn from other woman who have been there and done that…with grit, gumption, and grace.
It’s so, so relatable for me, I am very savvy to the impact a shoe, or footwear can have on my confidence, mood, the ability to initiate conversation, support my decision to make moves, carry me through challenging situations or just be pretty. There is more to shoes than meets the eye. We can look at a favorite pair on our closet and remember where, when, and why we purchased them. The feelings and emotions we experienced whiles wearing them, especially if it were a pivotal event or situation. There are books dedicated to shoes, designers, stories of prominent women featuring their favorite pair of footwear explaining their devotion to a favorite pair and why.
So many lessons while in my shoes, from getting my thin leather lace up sandals caught in the teeth of an escalator as a little girl, to the disintegration of my rubber platform heels during a Salsa dance, to the strength of my platinum silver leather cowgirl boots strutting me out of a bad situation feeling my power grow from within at the age of 50…we all have the stories. The stories of our footwear and footsteps along the journey, the stories of growth and overcoming fears, the stories of standing a little taller, the stories of that first marathon, the stories of combat, the stories of fuzzy warm snuggle time, the stories of hard work, long hours in the busy halls, stressful overnights filled with aches, pains, and ultimate relief. Whether you needed some band aides to cover the blisters from the stress or a wee bit a of vanity…it doesn’t’ matter.
